Our Energy Moment Encouraged by Senate Action to Finalize LNG Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 12, 2016)  -- Our Energy Moment (OEM) released the following statement today from OEM Executive Director Fred H. Hutchison after the U.S. Senate voted this afternoon to name conferees to a joint House-Senate conference committee charged with reconciling the omnibus energy bills that have passed both chambers:

"For nearly three years, Congress has been considering legislation that would set a statutory deadline on LNG export licensing procedures at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Today, the Senate joined the House in agreeing to proceed to an energy bill conference, thus bringing Congress a big step closer to adding greater certainty to the DOE LNG permitting issue.

"We are deeply encouraged not only by today's move to name conferees but also by the statements made on both sides of the Senate aisle indicating a willingness to put aside partisan, election-year differences, and produce a major energy bill that can be signed into law by President Obama. We urge the leadership of both bodies to continue to make improving the LNG permitting process a top legislative priority."
